"La mort de Badylak" -1981- Pour comprendre, rappelons les faits. En 1980, un homme, un matin s'enchaine au petit puits de la grande place de Cracovie, s'arrose d'essence et met le feu à l'essence. Il a attaché avec du fil de fer une pancarte en tôle avec un message sur sa poitrine. Les Miliciens arrivent d'un commissariat tout proche, font disparaître la pancarte, après quoi, ils éteindront le feu et appelleront l'ambulance. L'homme : Mr BADYLAK est mort. La pancarte ne fut jamais retrouvée. En 1981, pour mettre fin à des revendicaitons du syndicat ouvrier "Solidarnosc", et pour conserver le régime pro-soviétique, le général Jaruselski proclame, une nuit de décembre, l'état de guerre en Pologne. E. Waniek peint ce tableau, et, à la consternation générale, le présenta au Salon de1986.Consternation, car on ne peut pas refuser au Salon, le tableau d'un artiste généralement connu et respecté - mais on ne peut pas, non plus, risquer les carrières du Jury. "The death of Badylak" -1981- Here are the facts For the purpose of understanding in order to understand One morning in 1980 a man chains himself to a small well in the Market Place of Krakow, pours petrol on his body and sets fire to it. On his chest he had attached e metal panel with a message.The Police arrive, hide the panel and then only extinguish the fire and call for an ambulance. The man : M Badylak is dead. The metal panel has never been found. In 1981, in order to end the revindications of the Labour Union "Solidarnosc" and the preserve the pro-sovietic government in Poland, general Jaruzelski declares a state of war. E. Waniek painted this picture and to general dismay presented it at the 1986 exhibition. Dismay because the exhibition could not refuse to expose a painting of an artist so well known and respected, but it was not possible either to take a risk with the careers of the members of the jury. Finally the painting was shown only at the 1988 exhibition of the Historical Museum of Krakow. click on picture
